STUDENTS CREATIVITY STAGE WELCOMING HARDIKANAS

SMAN 1 Larantuka, Flores Timur Regency held two competitions in welcoming national education day (Hari Pendidikan Nasional/Hardiknas). The competitions are choir competition and also teenager scientific group competition that opened on April 27, 2016. Choir competition was followed by all the students of grade X and XI in which each of class represented by 20 students. In other side, teenager scientific group competition aimed to prepare the students in facing Science Olympiad. Teenager scientific group competition is a selection process to get the best students who will attend science Olympiad.

Yakobus Milan Betan, the head master of SMAN 1 Larantuka said that competition should be done in order to improve students’ creativity. According to him, in addition to the learning process in classroom, students also expected to be creative in expressing their ideas and also their talent. One of the teachers of SMAN 1 Larantuka, Silvester Witin said, “This competition is a way to improve students’ creativity in accordance with the demands on this era, because learning process in classroom is not enough to improve their creativity. Students must be creative.”

As same as Silvester, Maria Gulu, one of the contestants who represented class XI said that this contest is a good way for improving students’ talent. She added that the contest is a good chance for the students to know each other, so she hoped that the contest can be held also next year. The winner of each contest will be announced on May 2, 2016.
