High School Students in Kupang City Celebrated their Graduation Announcement Day With Uniform Spray-Painting and Motorcycles Parade

The students of senior high school in Kupang celebrated their graduation by spray painting their school uniform on May 07, 2016.

Kupang City,07/05/2016. The traffic in the Cak Doko street is jammed and the senior high school students who are gathering in front of their school, SMAN 1 Kupang, are seemed careless about the traffic condition, they are too happy to obey the regular traffic rule. The reason for the happiness is that today is the graduation announcement day.

The students who passed the examination are expressing their satisfaction by spray painting their school uniform. After grouped in a big number of people, they continue this activity by marching around the city. Some do the march by motorcycle that shortly turned it into a massive and uncontrol motorcycles parade. The march is ended when police arrived and told these students to go back to their home.This type of celebration has been a long tradition for Indonesian senior high school students whenever it comes to the graduation announcement day.

Bony Mboroh, one of the euphoric students share his feeling with Media Pendidikan Cakrawala NTT. This students face-painted his look with an american flag pattern and wearing a prepared decorated and spray-painted uniform. The painting on the uniform is unique, a face of the president Jokowi with the text that said, “Politik Anak Sekolah Heran Bisa Lulus” (Indonesian: Politically confused that sudents can be graduated). “I am so grateful today, it is the moment for me to prove to the people that had underestimated me for long time. I was not a great student. I changed school three times, and other people such as my neighbour seen me as a failed person, but today they are totally wrong,” said Bony happily. The text and image really represented this young student’s mind.

It is clear that, these students are creative in doing the celebration. On the other hand, the problem appears when the celebration get out of the control and combined with alcohol consumption and high speed motorcycle riding who easily be included at the moment like this. It is still on a debate about the necessity of this kind of celebration, and mostly many parts of society are not giving their support for an activity like this. What was done by these students also showed that their character have not grown well. This requires hard work from all education components, so the celebration of graduation day can be controlled.
